UPDATE: Giles County announces Code Red as New River water levels rise

UPDATE 11:20 p.m.: The Giles County Sheriff’s Office says water levels have risen to 17.7 feet as of 9:45 p.m.

Models indicate a crest of 18.6 feet around 8 a.m. on Friday.

GILES COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — According to the Giles County Sheriff’s Office, Giles County Administration has administered a Code Red Alert due to the rising water levels in the New River.

The New River is currently at 15.25 feet and is expected to crest at 17.2 feet at around 2 a.m. tomorrow.

Several low lying roads have already been flooded.
