BOTETOURT COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Botetourt County Department of Fire & EMS says four people have been rescued after tubing on the James River, which is still had flooded conditions from Thursday’s heavy rainfall.
Buchanan VFD and the Botetourt Special Operations Team reported to the James River below the Springwood boat launch at 4:44 p.m. on Sunday, May 24 to rescue the people.
Botetourt County Fire & EMS says the people were unable to safely make it out of the river on their own, so swift water rescue crews were deployed.
Resources and responders from Buchanan, Eagle Rock, Troutville, and Fincastle also assisted in the rescue.
Botetourt County Fire & EMS urges people to stay off the waterways that are still flooded, no matter the person’s level of boating experience.
