Four drivers sent to hospital in multi-vehicle crash in Henry County

HENRY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Virginia State Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash in Henry County that took place on Monday, which sent several people to the hospital for injuries.

According to Corinne Geller, the public relations director for the Virginia State Police, on Feb. 10 around 2:20 p.m. the driver of an International box truck traveling north on Route 220 merged onto the right lane and sideswiped five vehicles who were preparing to turn right onto Drewry Mason School Road.

When the truck merged it also pushed a 2016 Ram pickup off the right side fo the road and hit a the rear of a 2012 Chevrolet van in the turn lane. The truck came to a stop near the Ram pickup against an embankment, Geller said.

The truck’s crash into the van led to another crash involving two vehicles in the turn lane, according to police.

Four drivers were transported to nearby hospitals for minor injuries.

The driver of the box truck, William C. Leonard, 21, of Winson Salem, North Carolina was charged with reckless driving for failing to maintain control of the vehicle.

He was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash and was not injured.
