Flooding; downed trees, power lines close off roads across southwest Virginia

UPDATE 10 A.M.

(WFXR) — The rain continues to pour across southwest Virginia, causing numerous road blockages ahead of the Wednesday morning commute.

Here is a list of the Virginia Department of Transportation’s current road closures in place due to this wet weather on Wednesday, May 20:

Amherst County:

  • All northbound and southbound lanes are closed on Route 625/Gidsville Road at Dug Hill Road/Route 627 due to a downed tree.

Bedford County:

  • All eastbound and westbound lanes are closed on Route 755/Simmons Mill Road from Saunders Grove Drive/Route 754 to Saunders Road/Route 616 due to a downed tree.

Bland County:

  • All northbound and southbound lanes are closed on Route 623 near W Blue Grass Trail/State Route 42.

Campbell County:

  • All northbound and southbound lanes are closed at mile marker 10 — which is near Red Oak School Road/Route 604 — on Route 648/Nowlins Mill Road in Campbell County due to a downed tree.

Franklin County:

  • All eastbound and westbound lanes are closed on Route 739/Bethlehem Road from Leaning Oak Road/Route 728 to Oakwood Drive/Route 1609 in Franklin County due to downed power lines.
  • All eastbound and westbound lanes are closed on Route 756/Old Forge Road at Franklin Street/Pleasant Hill Road/State Route 40/Route 619 in Franklin County due to flooding.
  • All northbound and southbound lanes are closed on Route 759/Rufus Road from Fork Mountain Road/Route 608 to Crooked Oak Road/Route 718 in Franklin County due to flooding.

Montgomery County:

  • All northbound and southbound lanes are closed on Route 609 near Fishers Vie Lane NE, Serenity Drive in Floyd County, Timber Road, and Route 609 in Floyd County.

Pittsylvania County:

  • All northbound and southbound lanes are closed on Route 803/Hawkins Road from Craddock Lane/Route 1039 to U.S. Route 29 due to a downed tree.
