After several days of wet weather, flooding remains a problem in parts of our area, including Wythe County and the New River Valley.
Parking lots and a rugby field were flooded on the campus of Radford University Monday alongside the New River.
Some students stopped by to survey the floodwaters. Many said while the area floods regularly, they were surprised to see the river had risen so quickly.
“It’s pretty crazy, actually ’cause we play down there,” said Maria Uzel, a Radford University student. “We have days when it’s warm, and you just chill down there, but it’s above our heads actually right now.”
In Wythe County, more than a dozen roads are closed due to flooding, according to officials.
