A fire destroyed a Montvale home Monday evening.
“You never forget. You never forget a house like this,” says Shirley Dooley, who once lived at the house.
It’s been decades since Dooley resided at the house, but she remembers it well. It was her favorite house and she still holds onto countless pictures to remind her of it.
“To see it like it is now, it’s heartbreaking,” says Dooley.
When Dooley visited the house Tuesday morning, she couldn’t believe her eyes.
“Even at your worst, you cannot imagine how it hits you when you first see a house that was as beautiful as that house was,” says Dooley.
The beloved house she once lived in was now only rubble. Almost 24 hours after the fire broke out, smoke and some flames were still visible.
Firefighters tell WFXR that a family of three resided at the house. Only one person was home when the fire began. He was able to climb out a window and escape. The family dog and two pet birds did not survive.
“It’s sad. It really is. I feel so sorry for the family that lived here and lost everything,” says Dooley.
Her thoughts are with the family, as she holds onto the photos of her favorite home that is no longer standing.
The cause of the fire has not been determined.
