Family displaced after early morning house fire in Franklin County

A family was able to escape an early morning house fire.

The Franklin County Fire Marshal says the call came in just before 1:15 Wednesday morning at a residence on Briar Mountain Road. 

Scott Fulcher says when crew were on scene they could see fire and heavy smoke.

He said the fire looks like it started between the house and the carport.

A camper and car were also damaged along with the house.

He says a family of four was renting the house at the time and were able to get out.

The husband was taken to Franklin Memorial Hospital for smoke ventilation.

Multiple fire departments responded including Ferrum Volunteer Fire Department, Fork Mountain Volunteer Fire Department, Rocky Mount Fire Department, and Glade Hill Volunteer Fire Department. 

The American Red Cross will be assisting the family.
