Experts urge removal of bird feeders to combat mystery bird illness

Local News

BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — Although there haven’t been any cases of the mystery bird illness reported in Southwest Virginia, cases have been reported to our east and west.

The mystery bird illness has killed birds across several states, including Virginia, Kentucky, and West Virginia. It affects many common birds such as blue jays, starlings, and robins. The infected birds develop tremors and swollen, encrusted eyes, and in some cases die.

Experts recommend people remove their bird feeders to keep birds from gathering and potentially spreading the disease.
