DUI crash shuts down Campbell Avenue for hours

Lynchburg Police released what caused Campbell Avenue to be shut down to traffic for several hours on Friday morning.

According to investigators, Mia Vanags, 20, was driving under the influence when she ran off the road, hit a telephone pole, and overturned. Due to the impact of the crash, the pole and electrical wires fell across Campbell Avenue, closing the road.

Investigators said Ms. Vanags was not injured. She was arrested and charged with the following:

  • Driving after illegally consuming alcohol – under 21 years of age
  • Reckless driving – endanger life, limb, property
  • Driving under the influence of alcohol 

All lanes of Campbell Avenue have since reopened.
