Developer receives funding for apartments in former Southside high school

Local News

The former Southside High School and old Blairs Middle School could be seeing major changes in the future.

The developer of Southside Lofts, Landmark Asset Services, Inc.’s, application to the Virginia Housing Development Authority scored high enough to receive financing for renovation of the former Southside High School/Old Blairs Middle School into loft-style apartments.

The project is expected to cost about $10,000,000. Pittsylvania County donated the property that the school sits on and surrounding land for parking.

Southside Lofts will create 55 apartments for working families in Pittsylvania County and surrounding areas.

The complex will include a playground, fitness center, and business center. The apartments will include energy efficient appliances, as well as a high-efficiency HVAC system.

Efforts are being made to preserve the school’s history, and will include displays of school memorabilia.

The land surrounding the school will still be available for use by the Southside Soccer Club.
