The Blue Ridge Marathon celebrated its 10th anniversary today, laying out what runners can expect at this year’s race on April 13.
Event organizers announced musical entertainment, an untimed “Slow-K” for less serious runners, and this year’s celebrity guest – Olympian Jeff Galloway.
Several speakers touted the race’s economic impact – more than 14,000 runners from 46 states and 23 countries have crossed the finish line since 2010.
Roanoke Vice Mayor Joe Cobb says he’s proud of the event’s success, and thinks it highlights Roanoke’s many outdoor options.
“More people are realizing what we have right here- the treasure that we have in this city. And as was mentioned in the press conference, we now have close to 30 miles of greenway in addition to the run on the two mountains,” he said.
The race weekend will kick off on April 11th, and includes four days of live music.
