ValleyStar Credit Union is warning members after a skimming device was found on its Martinsville branch ATM.
According to a press release from ValleyStar, a very small number of member accounts have been impacted by the skimmer and those members are being notified now.
The credit union suggests customers use their Bluetooth – enabled mobile phone as a detector to search for nearby skimming devices that use Bluetooth to transmit the stolen information. Available devices can be viewed by clicking on “Bluetooth” in a mobile phone’s settings menu. A potentially suspicious device may appear as a long string of strange characters or numbers and does not look like a common Bluetooth device.
The Henry County Sheriff’s Office said it is handling the investigation. Investigators added that the card reading skimmer was place on the ATM on Saturday, February 2, 2019. It was removed the next day.
According to investigators, the man in the attached photo is suspected of placing the skimmer on the ATM.
Anyone with information on who he may be is asked to call the Henry County Sheriff’s Office at 26-638-8751 or Crimestoppers.
