Deputies confirm body recovered in James River is missing boater

Local News

GOOCHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WRIC) – The Goochland County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that the body found in the James River is 42-year-old missing boater Matthew Todd Jackson.

The news comes after rescue crews announced Sunday a search for a missing man in the James River was underway. Crews searched the Tarrington Riverfront Park area where the body was believed to have been found.

The body will be transported to the Medical Examiners Office in Richmond. The body has not been identified.

“This is nice, but you still, still have to be careful,” said Gregory MacDougall. He was on the river with his nieces earlier today, but he told 8News he didn’t stay long because he felt the water was too rough for the kids.

“Rather than coasting downstream and getting stuck we’re going to pack up and go to a place where it’s a little more quieter,” MacDougall said.

Deputies say Jackson went missing after jumping off of a boat into the James River around 6:45 p.m. Saturday.
