The Danville Fire Department investigating a early morning fire.
Here is the infromation from the Danville Fire Department:
“The Danville Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 109 Walker Street this morning at 12:57 am. Crews arrived at 12:59 am and found a medium sized two story apartment building with fire on the rear of the structure. Engine 5’s crew (from Third Ave fire station) pulled a hand line and began a defensive attack on the rear of the structure to extinguish of the fire. Engine 1’s crew (from Lynn Street fire Station) secured a water supply and then pulled an additional hand line for extinguishing the fire. Ladder 1’s crew forced entry into each apartment and searched for occupants. The building was vacant. Engine 5’s crew moved to apartment 4 on the second floor and began an offensive interior fire attack to extinguish the fire. Engine 7’s crew (from Airport Road) established a Rapid Intervention Team and set up equipment.
The fire was knocked down and determined to be under control at 1:28 am. The apartment building sustained major fire and water damage and the building was condemned.
The Danville Fire Department responded with three engines, a ladder truck, a command unit, a safety officer and a Fire Marshal. Sixteen fire personnel were on the scene for 2 hours and 19 minutes. The Danville Life Saving Crew, Danville Electric Department, Danville Water and Gas Department and Danville Police Department assisted on scene.
The cause of the fire was investigated by the Fire Marshal’s office and determined to be incendiary.”
