DANVILLE, Va. (WFXR) — The Danville Fire Department took to Facebook on Sunday to announce the death of an engineer who spent more than 26 years with the department, as well as to ask community members to keep that engineer’s family in their thoughts and prayers.
According to the department, Engineer Greg Thomas died on Saturday, Aug. 29. Since joining the department in November 1993, fire officials say Thomas served on multiple committees and even worked on the Danville Regional Hazmat Team.
Thomas’ son, Jonathan Thomas, also joined the Danville Fire Department on Jan. 1, which fire officials describe as “one of Greg’s proudest moments.”
“Thank you for your service and your dedication to the men and women of the Danville Fire department and to citizens of the City of Danville Virginia,” the department wrote on Facebook on Sunday, Aug. 30. “You will be missed but will live on in the hearts and friendship here at the Department.”
According to the funeral plans provided by the department, a visitation will be held for friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 1, as well as a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 2, at Norris Funeral Services, Mount Harmon Chapel in Danville.
