BLACKSBURG, Va. (WFXR) — A cybersecurity expert from Virginia Tech says cyberattacks — similar to the one that shut down the Colonial Pipeline — are up more than 300% since last year.
Dr. Aaron Brantly, an assistant professor of political science, says many companies are not doing everything they can to prevent them.
“On the corporate board sheet, it’s a loss column to implement cybersecurity of any type for the most type. And generally, they try to maintain the least amount of cybersecurity cost as possible,” he said.
Dr. Brantly warns it’s not just big corporations that are hit by ransomware. He says about 45% of these attacks target private individuals.
