BEDFORD COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Fire departments have responded to an early morning house fire in Bedford County.
According to dispatch with the Bedford County Sheriff’s Office, the fire was located at a home in the 1800 block of Quarles Road in Thaxton.
They say the fire was fully involved.
The Montvale Volunteer Fire Department received the call at 1:15 a.m.
When they arrived on the scene, the home was in complete flames. Due to the intensity of the fire, six additional units were called in to assist. An estimated 30-40 first responders were on the scene.
“When we arrived, it was fully-involved, so no one entered the structure. We set up a water supply, then we attacked the fire defensively, which means we attacked it from the inside,” says Deputy Chief Corey Orange with the Montvale Volunteer Fire Department.
It took crews 1 1/2 hours to put out the fire.
No was hurt in the fire. Once the fire was put out, crews remained on scene checking for hotspots and looking through debris.
Deputy Chief Orange says there was one resident inside the home when the fire broke out but managed to safely escape and alert first responders.
According to a next-door neighbor, the male resident lived alone.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The home is a total loss.
