Covington police respond to report of stabbing at Applebees

COVINGTON, Va. (WFXR) – Police with the City of Covington responded to reports of a stabbing that took place Wednesday afternoon around the Riverbend Shopping Center.

Police, along with medical personnel responded to the Applebee’s restaurant at 415 West Thacker Avenue shortly after 12 p.m. where they encountered an individual with stab wounds in the parking lot.

The victim was stabilized and was ultimately transferred to a local hospital.

Officers were able to identify a person of interest who was taken into custody and is being charged with malicious wounding.

Police have not released the identity of either the person in custody or the victim at this time.

The Covington Police Department has emphasized that this was an isolated incident and believes the incident occurred at a separate location.
