Contractors have begun cleaning up the space that used to hold an off-track betting facility in Vinton to make way for a new one called “Rosie’s Gaming Emporium” set to open in 2019.
The emporium will have a Rosie the Riveter theme and in addition to the satellite wagering terminals, will also have a bar and restaurant on site.
The off-site wagering facility will be in the same building as the previous operation that closed several years ago. However, this time around it is owned by a different group, will have a different theme, and a different target audience.
The Colonial Downs group closed on the property listing at 1135 Vineyard Road in Vinton in late October. The inside of the building will be completely gutted and renovated.
According to Vinton Assistant Town Manager Pete Peters, the group submitted plans a week ago and could have their permit in hand to begin construction as early as next week.
Peters said the town staff and town council are supportive of the new project and are excited about the revenue possibilities and job opportunities. The emporium is expected to employ between 50 to 60 employees.
Rosie’s Gaming Emporium is slated to open in April or May of 2019.
A groundbreaking ceremony is scheduled for December 11 at 10:30 a.m.
