Construction in West Virginia affecting travel plans in the Commonwealth

Local News

Travelers say before getting in your car and starting that engine, you’re going to want to pack your patience because they say it’s really hectic right before that construction area.

“It’s, it’s just a mess,” said Betty Pauley who drove through the construction zone.

Betty Pauley lives in West Virginia and drove through the I-77 construction zone.

“We probably came through the tunnel around 11 or even 11:30 and there was even at that time of night there was a 45 minute delay on that thing. It was unbelievable, you know I mean it was backed up forever I thought,” said Betty Pauley who drove through the construction zone.

She stopped in Wythe County on her way back to  the mountain state and says she’s prepared for the traffic.

“You’re backed up, there’s just no way, no way around it,” said Betty Pauley who drove through the construction zone.

Tiffani Underwood is the assistant manager at the Circle K that sits right off the intersection of I-81 and 77.

“This little store has a lot, a lot of foot traffic coming through it, like you would be surprised looking form the inside and coming in through the outside,” said Tiffani Underwood who is the Assistant Manager at the Circle K.

She says the store hasn’t been affected by the detour but says customers have a lot of questions.

“Where is this detour taking me and like when does this actually start becoming a problem,” said Tiffani Underwood who is the Assistant Manager at the Circle K.

Most travelers who stopped here to fill up told us that traffic was a mess but Betty says this time she and her husband are ready to go.

“We got snacks, we have drinks, we’re rolling we have plenty of gas now so we’re going to head out here,” said Betty Pauley who drove through the construction zone.
