A community has pitched in to pay for the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office newest member, Hulk, the K-9 officer.

Hulk is a year-and-a-half-old Springer Spaniel that recently joined the force as a drug dog.

Deputies said Pastor Ken Warfield and the members of Fork Baptist Church held fundraisers to raise money for the department to buy Hulk and a vest for him.

The sheriff’s office was recently given a check for $8,000 for Hulk and his vest.

A local business, Reed Inc., also pitched in and made the arrangements for Hulk to be trained, and flown from South Africa to Dulles Airport.
