Clifton Forge Mayor Carl Brinkley died at his home on Thanksgiving Day at the age of 80.
A town spokesman posted the following on social media:
It is with great sadness we announce the death of our mayor, Carl Brinkley. He will be greatly missed. Please have your thoughts with his family.
According to his bio on the town’s website, Brinkley lived in Clifton Forge most of his life with his two sons and wife.
He worked for the post office for 42 years and also served with the Virginia Army National Guard. He also served on many boards in the community.
Those who knew him best said he had two great loves, Clifton Forge and family.
“He always put his family first. That’s the kind of man he was. It was never about him, it was always about somebody else,” David Brinkley, Carl’s son, said.
“He cared so much about this little town of Clifton Forge and indeed the whole Alleghany Highlands, but he was just driven to give back,” Greg Madsen, Carl’s friend, added.
A memorial service will be held December 1, 2018 at noon at Clifton Forge Presbyterian Church.
