LYNCHBURG, Va. (WFXR News) — A 3-year-old child nearly drowned in a pool in Lynchburg Wednesday morning.
The Lynchburg Police Department found the child unresponsive in a pool in the 5100 block of Boonsboro Road around 11:30 a.m.
“Its just scary that this can happen so quickly when people have pools,” said Richard Plyter, who lives nearby.
Life saving measures, such as CPR, were taken once authorities arrived.
“I’m thankful that it was a near-drowning at this point,” said Plyter. “I’m very saddened that it was such a small child.”
The child was transported to Lynchburg General Hospital where medical professionals performed additional life-saving steps. The child was flown by helicopter to UVA Medical Center for further treatment.
“We are grateful that those life-saving measures were successful and we are putting out faith into the UVA Medical Center and hoping for more good news from there,” said Carrie Dungan with the Lynchburg Police Department.
WFXR is working to find out more on the child’s condition.
