Cause of death revealed for toddler found in Smith Mountain Lake

The Roanoke Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause of death to be drowning for two-year-old August Farley and the manner of death to be accidental. 

Farley went missing near Smith Mountain Lake on July 5 on Rosewood Lane in Huddleston. 

More than 160 law enforcement officers and volunteers searched the area for hours by air, water, and land. 

A dive team found the toddler’s body Thursday afternoon.

The family was visiting the area from Texas and were renting a house at Smith Mountain Lake.
