Cause of death released in Emma Layne murder

Local News

We now know the cause of death in the Emma Compton Layne murder investigation.

The District Administrator for the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner Central District said, “The cause of death is homicidal violence to include traumatic neck injury and the manner is homicide.”

Emma’s family has been desperate for answers since her murder.  Emma vanished from the Cody Store in Nathalie, on June 17, 2017.

“I was mad, because I kept telling them, ‘you need to find my sister’,” said Shawna Krohn.

“It was like they looked everywhere except for in the right places. Nobody wanted to believe that somebody had murdered her.”

On November 22, 2017, hunters found Emma’s body in a shallow grave on Sandy Ridge Road.

“I was mad that somebody could disrespect her like that,” said Shawna. “She was right there, right there. She laid out there for five months and four days.”

The Halifax County Sheriff’s Office has not released any information about a possible suspect.
