In the New River Valley, a small group gathered to shed light on a big issue.
Friday the New River Valley Disability Resource Center hosted a candlelight vigil for the disability day of mourning.
At the vigil the group remembered disabled people who have been murdered by their family members and caregivers.
They read the names of those killed in Virginia and across the country.
“Well the goal is awareness that it goes on, that people who are feeling conflicted seek help, that these murders do not go unnoticed, that it is murder. This is not a mercy killing. These people are not burdens. It is murder,” said Tiffany Allison, Communicate Advocate for the New River Valley Disability Resource Center.
