CHARLOTTE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Police say a Campbell County man is dead after a sports car collided with some trees in Charlotte County Saturday night.

According to authorities, the crash took place shortly before 8:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 30 along Staunton Hill Road, less than a mile north of Clarkton Bridge Road.

Virginia State Police say a 2001 Ford Mustang was driving north on Staunton Hill Road, ran off the left side of the highway, and hit several trees.

Forty-year-old Eric D. Bates of Brookneal — the man driving the Mustang — was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene of the collision, officials say.

As of this writing, this fatal crash investigation is still ongoing.
