A man from California pled guilty in court on Monday to Conspiracy to Riot in connection to the August 2017 “Unite the Right” rally in Charlottesville.

Thomas Walter Gillen is a member of white-supremacist group called Rise Above Movement, or RAM.

RAM is a California-based, combat-ready, militant group that identifies as part of the new nationalist and white supremacy movement.

“As Mr. Gillen has admitted as part of his guilty plea, he and other members of RAM attended the Unite the Right rally and other purported political demonstrations in California to incide and commit acts of violence, not to exervise their rights to free speech,” says U.S. Attorney Thomas Cullen.

Three other RAM members were also indicted in October 2018 and charged with violating the federal riots statute.
