The children who attended the Danville Police Department’s Youth Police Academy graduated Thursday morning.
The cadets spent three weeks with Danville Police Officers to learn more what it takes to be a police officer. Officers introduced students to different aspects of law enforcement and guest speakers talked about their life experiences.
The academy also partnered with community organizations to teach students about CPR and lifesaving, how to manage finances, and how to live healthy lives.
The graduation consisted of 37 cadets and 11 youth leaders.
Officers hope the program will help kids make positive life choices in the future. The academy also served as a way for kids to form bonds with the police officers within their community.
The Danville Police Department will start the early planning stages for the 2020 Youth Police Academy in the near future.
