Botetourt Deputies respond to home break-in near Eagle Rock, one shot

The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a breaking-and-entering incident the Eagle Rock area.

According to authorities, an armed man made his way into a house on Ball Park Road. He demanded a female inside to give him the keys to the vehicle outside. She yelled for help and a man came downstairs — that’s when the suspect began shooting inside the home.

The male homeowner retrieved a weapon and then shot at the suspect once.

Deputies found the suspect lying in the front yard with a gunshot wound to the neck area. 

A rescue squad stabilized the suspect. He has been taken to an area hospital.

The homeowners say they have never met the man before.

Sheriff Ronnie Sprinkle says the man and woman inside the home where shaken up, but appear to be okay.

“Is it crazy to think something like that could happen around here?” Jennings Morton asked. “Yes, it is crazy.”

Jennings Morton and his wife live down the road from where the incident took place.

“We heard the gunshots you know, not thinking anything, then heard the second gunshot, then the police cars come by and we didn’t know what was going on,” said Morton.

Charges are pending. The incident is still under investigation
