“Big Wigs” don pink wigs to fight breast cancer

Local News

Twelve local leaders have been selected by the Susan G. Komen Virginia Blue Ridge Affiliate to serve as big wigs. They will don pink wigs from now until February 10 to raise awareness and funds to fight breast cancer.

The big wigs were announced at an event that featured familiar faces, as well as creative hairstyles.

“Each big wig is armed with the tools so that they can talk to their community and their social circles about breast cancer so people know what to look for. Different signs and symptoms. So it’s not just money. It’s also education,” says Catherine Warren, executive director of the Susan G. Komen Virginia Blue Ridge Affiliate.

The local affiliate is hoping to raise at least $10,000 this year. Last year was a record breaking year with $23,000 raised.
