Angels of Assisi has gotten more than $6,000 thanks to a partnership with the Berglund Center and Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers.
For the second season of the Rail Yard Dawgs hockey team, an exclusive beer was created to raise money for the organization.
The drink, known as the “Paws & Pucks Red Ale’, was sold at every Dawgs home game and other Berglund Center events. Two dollars from every sale went to Angels of Assisi.
Here is the press release:
Roanoke, VA – At the beginning of the second season for the Rail Yard Dawgs hockey team, an exclusive beer was created through a partnership with Berglund Center and Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers. In an effort to treat fans to a craft beer experience from a well-known, local brewery and to fundraise for Angels of Assisi, the ‘Paws & Pucks Red Ale’ was born. The beverage was sold at every Dawgs home game, plus other Berglund Center events, with $2 from each purchase going directly to the Angels of Assisi.
“The idea for Paws & Pucks Red Ale was the culmination of three of our favorite things: animals, hockey, and beer,” stated Berglund Center General Manager Robyn Schon. “Working with Soaring Ridge to create a beer that specifically benefits animal rescue and welfare has been a very rewarding experience. We appreciate Berglund Center’s guests, especially Rail Yard Dawgs fans, for supporting a local brewer and the amazing work being done at Angels of Assisi.”
Berglund Center was able to present Angels of Assisi Director, Lisa O’Neill, and her staff with a check for $6,246. Also present was Soaring Ridge Craft Brewers’ Sean Osborne, who had a hand in customizing the Paws & Pucks Red Ale specifically for this venture. Angels of Assisi “operates the largest private animal shelter in the Roanoke Valley, as well as a low cost Community Pet Clinic and farm animal sanctuary”. The money donated will directly benefit the services and resources the organization is able to provide to the Roanoke community and beyond.
