Sad news for anyone who has enjoyed the Roanoke Weiner Stand in the past several decades.

Beloved manager Johnny Liakos died early Friday morning.

Johnny was in an apron and gloves for more than 50 years and was arguably the most recognizable figure at the Star City favorite.

Hundreds of employees had the chance to work alongside him at one or both restaurant locations, including Jeb Ferguson, who says he learned the news Friday morning.

“Well I know he’s very popular. Nearly every single day someone comes in and asks about him,” said Jeb Ferguson.

No word yet on potential restaurant tributes, but it’s safe to say the Roanoke Weiner Stand will never be the same without Johnny behind the grill.
