The Board of Supervisors has voted to continue with broadband expansion.
Members voted in favor of a comprehensive agreement with Blue Ridge Towers.
The $3.5 million deal calls for the construction of nine initial towers, creating the Bedford County Broadband Network.
“High speed internet and broadband access is comparable to electricity in the 1910’s, 1920’s, for all the reason you mentioned, our school children, business growth and just basic participation in America. Everybody needs access to broadband,” said Anthony Smith, President of Blue Ridge Towers.
Blue Ridge Towers is expected to begin construction soon.
Service from the project is expected to be available by 2020.
