Beating cancer, a Wythe County resident’s inspiring story

Local News

There are a lot of emotions that come along with hearing the words, you have cancer.

“Scared to death,” said Pat Larson, cancer survivor.

Pat Larson volunteered for the Wythe County Relay for Life years before she found out she would become one of the people she was helping.

“I never thought I’d be doing this for me. You know you don’t,” said Pat Larson, cancer survivor.

Pat says luckily her doctor was able to catch her cancer before it spread and after two surgeries and two years later, she says she is free.

“Now technically the American Cancer Society says you have to be without cancer five years before you’re declared cancer free,  but we declare me cancer free,” said Pat Larson, cancer survivor.

Pat says the key to a quick recovery was exercise, eating healthy, and listening to your body.

“If you think something’s wrong, don’t wait. Don’t wait. Get a quick diagnosis if you can,” said Pat Larson, cancer survivor.
