The Botetourt County Sheriff’s Office is investigating after a string of break-ins at three area businesses. An unidentified person broke into Clayton Mobile Homes in the Cloverdale area, as well as the Greenway Market and the Speedy Exxon in Buchanan.
The break-ins happened on Wednesday night.
Just after 11:00 p.m., someone broke into the Greenway Market and an alarm sounded. Deputies responded and found that the business had been entered through a broken window.
“It takes some courage to try to break in here. It’s pretty blatant,” says Jeff Colquhoun, a regular customer.
Debbie, a longtime employee at Greenway Market says her daughter called to tell her the news and check to see if she was okay.
“I was shocked. It’s been about a year since we had been robbed. Then I heard there were other robberies the same night,” says Debbie.
Deputies responded to Clayton Homes Thursday morning once the break-in was reported. An employee says a television and some smaller items were stolen. Furniture was also rearranged and several doors were kicked in.
“I’m real surprised because there’s just a lot of volume of traffic,” says Colquhoun of the nearby roadway. Colquhoun says the area is heavily patrolled and he thought that would be a deterrent to whomever broke in.
Just about thirty minutes after the break-in at the Greenway Market, an alarm also sounded at the Speedy Exxon station about 13 miles away.
“I just hope they catch them,” says Debbie.
The suspect has not been identified at this time. Authorities believe the same person was responsible for all three break-ins.
