UPDATE: Fugitive who ran away from traffic stop in custody following Wythe County manhunt, police say

UPDATE 11:09 a.m.: Police say the fugitive who ran away from a traffic stop and drug investigation Tuesday night has been taken into custody following a Wythe County manhunt.

However, the Wytheville Police Department has yet to release the identity of the fugitive or the charges he faces.

UPDATE 10:12 a.m.: The Wytheville Police Department says a Virginia State Police helicopter is currently doing a grid search of the cornfields and woods surrounding the area as law enforcement continues searching the Lithia Road, Nye Road, Bob Springs, and Lovers Lane areas for a wanted man.

WYTHE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Members of the Wythe County community are asked to remain alert while deputies, police officers, and state troopers conduct a manhunt for a fugitive Wednesday morning.

According to the Wytheville Police Department, law enforcement officers are searching the Lithia Road, Nye Road, Bob Springs, and Lovers Lane areas for a fugitive who ran from a traffic stop and drug investigation on the interstate the night of Tuesday, Sept. 15.

Police describe the fugitive as a man with tattoos on both arms and wearing red shorts and a black t-shirt.

Wythe County authorities advise anyone in the area to lock your doors and make sure not to leave your keys in your car.

If you see this man, call 911 or (276) 223-6000 immediately and report his location, but do not approach him.
