Early school release, road closures, power outages after morning crash in Montgomery Co.

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Three schools in Montgomery County will release early Friday, Nov. 8, due to a power outage.

Auburn Elementary will close at 2:30 p.m. Auburn Middle and High Schools will close at 1 p.m.

A vehicle hit a power poll Friday morning on Route 8. Several hundred homes and business are without power as a result of the accident, the county sheriff’s office said.

Route 658 (Meadow Creek Road) is closed between Childress Road (Route 693) and Riner Road (Route 8) because of downed power lines, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.

Utility provider Appalachian Power expects crews to restore power by 4 p.m.
