UPDATE: Zeta-related power outages down to 2,200 customers in Danville area, handful of roads remain blocked in city

UPDATE 5:08 P.M.: Customers without power in the Danville area served by Danville utilities due to Tropical Storm Zeta only total 2,200 Thursday night. At the peak of the storm, 23,350 customers were without power.

Five streets remain partially blocked, including Hanley Circle, Norwood Drive, Miller Road, and James and Miller Streets.

UPDATE 1:11 p.m.: The number of southwest and central Virginians without power has now surpassed 30,000 by Thursday afternoon due to the remnants of Hurricane Zeta.

As of 1:10 p.m. on Thursday, Danville Utilities is reporting 23,282 from 93 active outages around the Danville area.

Meanwhile, as of 12:58 p.m. on Thursday, the following localities are reporting outages for at least 7,294 Appalachian Power customers:

  • Amherst County: 86 customers due to 4 outage cases
  • Bedford County: 16 customers due to 4 outage cases
  • Botetourt County: Less than 5 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Campbell County: 30 customers due to 2 outage cases
  • Carroll County: 18 customers due to 4 outage cases
  • Floyd County: 6 customers due to 2 outage cases
  • Franklin County: 49 customers due to 4 outage cases
  • Galax: 9 customers due to 3 outage cases
  • Giles County: 5 customers due to 2 outage cases
  • Henry County: 5,293 customers due to 33 outage cases
  • Lynchburg: 20 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Nelson County: 232 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Montgomery County: 1,071 customers due to 3 outage cases
  • Pittsylvania County: 423 customers due to 5 outage cases
  • Roanoke City: 36 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Roanoke County: Less than 5 customers due to 2 outage cases
  • Wythe County: Less than 5 customers due to 1 outage case

UPDATE 11:50 a.m.: In less than two hours, the number of Virginians without power has jumped from a few hundred to more than 15,000 in the southwest and central regions.

According to the City of Danville, feeders at several substations have gone offline, most likely due to trees and limbs over power lines.

Due to these offline feeders, officials estimate 15,000 to 20,000 customers are without power in areas such as Sutherlin, Ringgold, Mount Hermon, Westover, Schoolfield, and more areas around Danville.

As of 11:49 a.m. on Thursday, Danville Utilities says 16,612 customers are affected by 73 active outages around the Danville area.

Meanwhile, as of 11:43 a.m. on Thursday, the following localities are reporting outages for at least 1,948 Appalachian Power customers:

  • Bedford County: 10 customers due to 2 outage cases
  • Campbell County: 15 customers due to 2 outage cases
  • Carroll County: 40 customers due to 3 outage cases
  • Floyd County: 6 customers due to 2 outage cases
  • Franklin County: 105 customers due to 6 outage cases
  • Galax: 224 customers due to 2 outage cases
  • Giles County: Less than 5 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Henry County: 415 customers due to 15 outage cases
  • Lynchburg: 20 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Montgomery County: 1,071 customers due to 3 outage cases
  • Pittsylvania County: Less than 5 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Pulaski County: 6 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Roanoke City: 36 customers due to 1 outage case

(WFXR) — As remnants of Hurricane Zeta move through, more than 300 Appalachian Power customers are facing power outages Thursday morning.

As of 10:14 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 29, the following localities are reporting outages for at least 332 Appalachian Power customers:

  • Amherst County: 11 customers due to 2 outage cases
  • Bedford County: 43 customers due to 2 outage cases
  • Campbell County: 10 customers due to 1 outage cases
  • Carroll County: 7 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Floyd County: 5 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Franklin County: 166 customers due to 4 outage cases
  • Giles County: Less than 5 customers due to 2 outage cases
  • Grayson County: Less than 5 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Henry County: 15 customers due to 2 outage cases
  • Montgomery County: Less than 5 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Pulaski County: 17 customers due to 2 outage cases
  • Roanoke City: 32 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Roanoke County: Less than 5 customers due to 1 outage case
  • Wythe County: 26 customers due to 3 outage cases
