Arrest made in the homicide of Rocky Mount man

ROCKY MOUNT, Va. (WFXR) — Rocky Mount Police have arrested a suspect in the homicide of a Rocky Mount man in November.

Derry Dee Finney, 35, of Ridge Road, Martinsville, has been charged with murder and unauthorized use of a vehicle for the killing of 68-year-old James Edward Kirby.

Kirby’s body was discovered on Nov. 29 before 10 p.m.

The Western Virginia Medical Examiner’s Office determined that Kirby was strangled to death.

Officers at the scene discovered that the victim’s car was missing.

Police located the vehicle at a residence in Martinsville on Nov. 30. Investigators interviewed the resident but made no arrest at that time.

After further investigation, police arrested Finney on Thursday, Dec. 5.

He is being held without bond at the Western Virginia Regional Jail. Finney may face additional charges.
