UPDATE: Major outage fixed in Roanoke County, still more than 560 Appalachian Power customers in SWVA dealing with outages Wednesday

UPDATE 6:55 a.m.: Even though the major outage in Roanoke County impacting more than 1,100 customers Wednesday morning has been repaired, Appalachian Power is now reporting an outage impacting more than 300 Botetourt County customers.

While a total of 324 customers are without power in Botetourt County as of 6:44 a.m. because of two outage cases, the company says 305 of those customers are from a single Botetourt County outage that started shortly after 5:30 a.m. and is not expected to be fixed until 11:30 a.m.

Meanwhile, Appalachian Power is also reporting at least 243 customer outages in these other southwest Virginia localities as of this writing:

  • Montgomery County: 109 customers due to seven outage cases
  • Franklin County: 49 customers due to one outage case
  • Floyd County: 45 customers due to three outage cases
  • Carroll County: 34 customers due to three outage cases
  • Pulaski County: Six customers due to one outage case
  • Bland County: Less than five customers due to one outage case
  • Pittsylvania County: Less than five customers due to two outage cases
  • Roanoke County: Less than five customers due to one outage case
  • Wythe County: Less than five customers due to one outage case

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Around 1,400 Appalachian Power customers in Roanoke County and the surrounding localities are impacted by power outages Wednesday morning as the remnants of Ida bring the potential for severe weather to the region.

As of 5:28 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 1, Appalachian Power says 1,178 customers are without power because of a single outage in Roanoke County.

This outage — which is in the Dixie Caverns area — started at approximately 12:21 a.m. from an equipment-related cause, but crews expect to restore power by 6:30 a.m., according to the company

Meanwhile, Appalachian Power is also reporting at least 217 customer outages in these other southwest Virginia localities as of this writing:

  • Montgomery County: 64 customers due to six outage cases
  • Franklin County: 49 customers due to one outage case
  • Floyd County: 43 customers due to two outage cases
  • Carroll County: 34 customers due to three outage cases
  • Botetourt County: 21 customers due to one outage case
  • Pulaski County: Six customers due to one outage case
  • Bland County: Less than five customers due to one outage case
  • Pittsylvania County: Less than five customers due to two outage cases
  • Wythe County: Less than five customers due to one outage case
