(WFXR) — With a significant snow event looming, Appalachian Power is implementing a plan ahead of the storm to handle what happens during and after the storm passes.

A large winter weather event, forecast to bring more than eight inches of snow to many areas, is expected to impact travel conditions Sunday across much of the company’s service area. In addition to significant snowfall, a mix of snow, sleet, and freezing rain to parts of the region.

Appalachian Power says before the storm arrives, all local crews and contractors will be in position within their regular reporting locations, packed and ready to go — either to work in their own areas or travel to storm-damaged areas.

Additionally, Appalachian Power will place damage assessors and line crews from sister companies in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio ahead of the storm in Charleston and Wheeling in West Virginia and Abingdon and Roanoke in Virginia.

After the storm passes, the company’s storm response team will make decisions on moving workers based on extent and location of damage is known.

Significant accumulations of snow and ice can bring down power lines. Appalachian Power wants to remind everyone to treat any downed line as a live power line by staying away from the line and never touching them.
