ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Members of the Alleghany County and Covington communities have two new law enforcement officers looking out for them: K9 Rex and K9 Skaza.

The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office announced on Facebook on Monday, Nov. 29 that Rex — a 2-year-old Belgian Malinois/German Shepherd mix — has been assigned to Sgt. K. Curry.

Meanwhile, officials say the 14-month-old Belgian Malinois, Skaza, will be working with Deputy J. Wright.

According to authorities, both Curry and Wright graduated from a four-week K9 handling course in North Carolina.

In addition, both Rex and Skaza are reportedly trained in drug detection, trailing, and apprehension.
