Section of Route 678 in Bath County closed due to slope failure

STAUNTON, Va. (WFXR) — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a section of Route 678 (Indian Draft Road) has been shut down due to a slope failure.

The section of the roadway that was closed on Sunday, April 11 is near Williamsville, just south of the Highland County line.

Weather-permitting, the roadway should be back open in approximately one week.

Detours are posted:

  • Northbound traffic will turn left on Route 614 (Tower Hill Road) and then right to follow Route 609 (Dry Run Road/Burnsville Road) into Highland County and back to Route 678.
  • Southbound traffic will turn right to follow Route 6098 (Burnsville Road/Dry Run Road) into Bath County and then left on Route 614 (Tower Hill Road) and back on Route 678.
