UPDATE: Friday night’s brush fire contained north of Covington

UPDATE 9:20 a.m.: Last night’s brush fire north of Covington in Alleghany County has been contained.

The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office tells WFXR News that the Forestry Service will remain on-scene Saturday to monitor the area.

WFXR News has reached out to the Raphine Volunteer Fire Department for an updated on the status of the fire around Goshen Pass but have yet to hear back.

WFXR News will continue to update this story as additional information comes in.


ROCKBRIDGE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Fire crews are battling brush fires in Alleghany and Rockbridge counties this evening.

The Alleghany Sheriff’s Office told WFXR News that one of the brush fires is burning in the Dunbrack Road area, north of Covington.

Another fire is burning near Goshen in Rockbridge County. The Raphine Volunteer Fire Company says the fire is near the Wilson Springs area. The fire is not contained at this time.
