Covington man dead after ejected from car in Alleghany County Tuesday

ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – Police are investigating after a man died following a Tuesday morning crash in Alleghany County.

Virginia State Police say the single-vehicle crash took place at approximately 7 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7 on Route 18, less than half a mile south of Route 787.

According to authorities, a 2002 Dodge Stratus was heading north on Route 18 when it ran off the right side of the road, overturned, and ejected the driver.

The driver of the Dodge — identified by police as 56-year-old Timothy Wayne Handy of Covington — was not wearing his seatbelt and died at the scene of the crash.

This fatal crash investigation is still ongoing.
