ALLEGHANY COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — The Alleghany County Commonwealth Attorney is reviewing an incident that led to a deputy shooting a dog on April 19th.
According to the Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on Wednesday morning when officers responded to a dog running at large in the Paynes Grade area. A deputy with the sheriff’s office responded to the scene and located the dog with a chain still attached.
The dog allegedly bared its teeth and bit the deputy twice and violently shook him. The officer allegedly tried to use a baton but was unsuccessful and shot the dog.
The dog was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Alleghany County Sheriff’s Office says the body camera footage and an incident report will be turned over to the Commonwealth Attorney.
