2021 Highland County Maple Festival canceled

HIGHLAND COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) – The Highland County Chamber of Commerce has decided to cancel both weekends of the 2021 Highland County Maple Festival.

Originally slated for the weekends of March 13-14 and March 20-21, 2021, organizers say the cancellation is due to the current state guidelines due to the ongoing pandemic.

Normally, the festival draws in thousands from all over the country; however, with current restrictions of a maximum of 250 people, including staff, vendors and volunteers, it was decided to cancel this year’s event.

“The Chamber is dedicated to keeping that legacy alive and continuing this tradition for many years to come for future generations. We look forward to being back stronger than ever in 2022.”

But just because the festival is canceled, does not mean the sap-tapping stops.

The sugar camps that Highland County is famous for will continue as planned in the late-winter and spring. Chamber member businesses and organizations will also continue operations in Highland County.
