A Roanoke woman is in jail after police say she allegedly stabbed a man to death

In Galax, a man is stabbed to death and a Roanoke woman is now in custody

Galax Police say they found a man stabbed multiple times at the Galax Motel on East Stuart Drive around 10:30 Thursday night.

The victim, who has yet to be identified, died at the scene.

39-year old Yashica Chapman is being charged with first degree murder.

She was transported to the New River Valley Jail.

A spokesperson for Galax Police Chief Rick Clark advised that on June 22, 2017 at 10:27 PM members of the Galax Police Department responded to The Galax Motel located on East Stuart Drive.  Officers responded to a report of an individual having been stabbed. 

Responding officers discovered an unresponsive adult male suffering from multiple wounds.  Attempts to revive him at the scene by Paramedics were not successful. 

A suspect was taken into custody by Police Officer(s) Darren Alley and Adam Newman at the scene. 

Yashica Dushawn Richardson Chapman (39) of Roanoke, Virginia was charged with First Degree Murder by Detective JB Greer.  She was transported to the New RIver Valley Jail pending her arraignment in the Galax Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court.  

The name and age of the victim are being withheld pending notification of family.
