A 15-year-old boy is dead and six are injured after a car hit a tractor-trailer head-on in Grayson County Wednesday just before 5 p.m.
Virginia State Police said none of the seven individuals in a Nissan Rogue were wearing seatbelts as it was traveling east on Route 58 when it crossed the center line and struck head-on a westbound tractor-trailer.
The tractor-trailer driver was not injured in the crash.
The 31-year-old woman who was driving, an adult passenger, 8-year-old passenger, 11-year-old passenger, and 13-year-old passenger were all taken to Wake Forest Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem, North Carolina for treatment of serious injuries.
A 16-year-old passenger was taken to a hospital in Sparta, North Carolina with serious injuries.
A 15-year-old from Independence, Virginia died at the scene.
The State Police was assisted by the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office, Independence Police Department, Independence Volunteer Fire Department, Independence Volunteer Rescue Squad, and Galax-Grayson Ambulance Service, Fries Fire and Rescue, Rugby Volunteer Fire Dept., Rugby Volunteer Rescue Squad, and Alleghany County NC emergency services.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Charges are pending.
